DIY Scrunchies

In this tutorial, I will be showing you how easy and quick it is to make the cutest scrunchies. Using the Skyline S7, I was able to add decorative stitching to personalize my scrunchies!

Materials:

-¼” elastic

-Safety Pin

-Fabric scraps (will be cut into 4”x24” strips)

-Matching thread Optional: colored/embroidery thread for decorative stitching)

-Border guide foot for deco stitches

Directions:

Start by measuring out a rectangle that is 24” long by 4” wide. You can keep your fabric folded in half and cut two strips at one time. 

Fold your strip of fabric right sides together along the 24” length. Stitch a ¼” seam allowance, starting 1.5” down from the top edge, and stop 1.5” from the bottom edge. Be sure to backstitch.

Attach a safety pin to one end of the tube and insert the safety pin inside the tube to turn it right side out.

Match the 4” edges of the tube right sides together and stitch ¼” seam allowance.

Cut a strip of ¼” elastic that is 7” long.

Attach a safety pin to one end of elastic to feed it through the scrunchie until it comes out on the other side.

Overlap the elastic about ½” and use a pin to secure the elastic when bringing it under the presser foot but be sure to remove the pin before sewing. Make sure to back stitch a few times to strengthen the seam on the elastic.

Lastly, fold in the opening ¼” on each side and top stitch to close.

FYI: The proper way to sew decorative stitches is with tear away stabilizer underneath your fabric. Because we wanted to create a pucker and add texture to our fabric, we did not use it in this video.
